It was a sunny day. I started my computer at the usual time. Maybe the friend studying abroad had sent me his photos already. I was anxious to check my e-mail. During the time the computer checked its system, I polished off one piece of cake as breakfast.
I clicked the mouse to start “Connection to Internet” and “Outlook”, chose “Receive all e-mails”, and waited. One, two, three, 3 new e-mails. Great. There should be some photos. With a pleasant sound, my computer told me the task had been accomplished already.
“Teng!” (“警告”提示的伴随声音) There suddenly jumped out a “Warning” window (“警告”提示窗口). It read: “There is something wrong with some system files. Delete them all?” Something wrong? I hadn’t installed any new software these days. How came that? I clicked “Ok” to delete the files mentioned and opened one of the photos.
“Teng!” The “Warning” jumped out again. Why? Haven’t I deleted those files? I clicked “Ok” again and turned to my friend’s lovely photos. A few seconds later, “Teng”, “Warning” again. What’s wrong? My joy was broken down. I clicked “Cancel” instead.
But my computer seemed not tired and still showed me the “Warning” once again. That’s so strange. Why the “Warning” came up again and again? Should it be----Virus! I nearly cried out! I sat still blankly without clicking “Ok” or “Cancel”. But the terrible thing came up that more and more “Warning” jumped out and the desktop (桌面) was “filled” with one dozen “Warning” in one minute!
“Warning” were still turning up. I was afraid my computer would be swallowed soon unless I took an effective action. I shut down the computer first. That’s the only way I could prevent “Warning” jumping out. What should I do then? Maybe it was the new virus reported recently, which I had received via e-mail. Dear me!
I didn’t have the software for killing this virus. Indeed, that software hadn’t been developed yet. Should I try “the last way”----to format the disc and install the whole system (格式化硬盘，重装系统)? I felt blank and frozen. It meant, all the data stored in my computer would be lost!
I had no other way!
I found the palms of my hands covered in a fine film of cold sweat. My heart was pounding. Try that. I whispered to myself.
It was not the first time I formatted the computer and installed the system. But this time it felt much different. I used floppy disk（软盘）to start the computer, came to Dos (Dos 界面) and formatted both “C” and “D” discs. Then I put “Windows 98” disk onto CD--Rom and started it. I chose “Install Win 98”. The work went on smoothly. I felt a bit relieved.
30 minutes later, “Win 98” had been installed successfully. I started the new operating system, knowing everything is all right.
It took me a whole morning to fight against the virus. I was exhausted after that. I lazed in the chair without thinking anything.
That was the very moment I got touched with the virus. Until now I still can recapture the mixed feeling.
